Filipina Youtuber Mika Salamanca recently trends online after being arrested due to her recklessness in a foreign country.
Salamanca, who travelled all the way to Hawaii for an unknown reason was tracked by the local government after she posted a Tiktok video of her dancing inside a store 4 days after she arrived in the country.
According to international quarantine protocol, a tourist should isolate for 14 days regardless of the test result he or she took to check his/ her health status.
After finding out the situation, the vlogger was immediately arrested and was even broadcast on a local TV news program for people’s awareness.
“The report added officials obtained videos of Mika “dancing in a store and dining out with companions.” Mika was released from jail after her relatives posted $2,000 (Php 98,669) bail.” Manila Bulletin wrote.
“Gusto ko pong mag-sorry sa lahat ng misunderstanding and sa lahat ng maling nakikita niyo po sa internet. Inaamin ko po na nagkamali po ako nung time na dumating po ako dito sa Hawaii and agad po kaming lumabas,” she said.
But apparently, Mika, who has over 2 million subscriber on her Youtube account did not seem to think about the consequences of her actions at all. On the video she uploaded on her channel, she tried to defend her action by saying that a police officer went to her house and tell her personally that she could go out once she tests negative from COVID-19.
Special Agents from the Investigations Attorney General Clare E. Connors, however, firmly denied that in a statement to KITV.
“None of my investigators would convey that information, as it is incorrect. The fact that Ms. Salamanca has so many followers makes her actions that much more dangerous and concerning. The spread of misinformation can have very severe consequences during an emergency situation like we are in now,” the statement read.
